play list: august 2018
It’s baaaaaack. Here’s another edition of “play list,” where we ask each other a lot of questions that are both completely meaningless and totally insightful. Or we try to, anyway.
If you had to eat the same dinner every day for the rest of your life, what meal would you choose?
Becky:
This is the stuff my nightmares are made of, but I guess I’d choose kimbap. Or crab legs. Kimbap topped with crab legs.
Kevin:
Fried prawns, an avocado with seasoned salt and a twist of lime, a salad, and two Abita Strawberry Harvest lagers.
Sarah:
Tikka masala, my go-to meal. By adjusting the spices you can make it taste different every time, love it.
Micah:
That's tough, but I think it's safe to say this would be bad, because I'm sure I wouldn't pick something healthy. :(
Name a movie remake or a [non-Star Wars] sequel that’s better than the original.
Chase:
I'm usually not a big fan of sequels or remakes, but I did enjoy Paddington 2 a lot!
Olivia:
The Parent Trap (introducing Lindsay Lohan) still serves as style inspiration for me. The original’s not bad, just not something I watched on repeat growing up.
Jordan:
The original True Grit was great. The remake was even better.
Micah:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The first Star Trek movie is by all accounts a terrible film, so the sequel didn't have to do much to be better. However, it wasn't just a better film; it ended up being by far the best out of all the films based on the original series.
What’s your least favorite song?
Chase:
"Old Time Rock and Roll" by Bob Seger. In my early twenties, I worked as a waiter at Waffle House, and it would come on the jukebox ALL THE TIME, provoking internal tidal waves of hatred and nausea (in retrospect, the latter may have been caused by too many Honey Buns...).
Becky:
Right now, it’s “All Star” by Smash Mouth, which I had to listen to earnestly and unironically so I could do this…
Olivia:
“Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran. Google tells me Ed had to put his private chapel construction on hold because of great crested newts.
Jordan:
"…If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands…”
What Hogwarts House are you in, either based on your own instinct, or on a quiz? And what’s your Patronus?
Chase:
Ravenclaw + swan!
Becky:
Ravenclaw. Obviously. And a mastiff. :)
Olivia:
I’m way too proud about being in Gryffindor. A little less about my Patronus being a St. Bernard, but I’ll take it.
Kevin:
Ravenclaw. Is that good? And a stag.
Jordan:
Ravenclaw + a hare.
Sarah:
I am totally a Hufflepuff. On Pottermore, I took the quiz a while back, and my Patronus was a hawk!
Micah:
“Hufflepuffs value hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.” Patronus is a hare.
What’s the most unbelievable thing you’ve ever seen in real life?
Kevin:
You know how once a year or so you’ll see a basketball player shoot, and the ball gets stuck between the side of the rim and the backboard? I once saw that happen twice—on consecutive possessions—in a pickup game.
Sarah:
After a tornado hit our town there was a fishing boat in a tree in our yard. We lived halfway up a mountain and miles from any river or lake. Never figured out where it came from.
Micah:
This isn't something I saw in person, but it is something I watched happen live on the internet—a few months back when Space X had the test launch of their Falcon Heavy rocket. The thing that I thought was amazing when I saw it was the two side boosters falling back to Earth, then landing in unison. The way they landed didn't even look real; it looked like something of science fiction. Totally blew my mind.
Becky:
I saw someone slip on a banana peel.
Olivia:
Any magic, good or bad. I’m like this guy:
