Every three years, the Kirkpatrick Foundation hosts the ANIMAL Conference as part of their Safe & Humane initiative: to make Oklahoma one of the safest and most humane places to be an animal, through education and advocacy. The Conference seeks to bring together people with different relationships and experiences with animals throughout the state and beyond in order to learn about, and support, animal wellbeing.

In 2015, we produced a video for their first-ever ANIMAL Conference, in partnership with Factor 110. A few years later, we collaborated with the Kirkpatrick Foundation once again to make a new video for an organization called the Oklahoma Link Coalition, the state chapter of the National Link Coalition. Their mission is to educate Oklahomans on the link between animal abuse and other kinds of abuse.

Simply put:

When animals are abused, people are at risk.

When people are abused, animals are at risk.

It’s a very important message that our animal-loving staff felt honored to help share. For the design, we came up with a paper chain style to help show how we’re linked, animals and humans together, as a community. We used flat, paper-style characters in a three-dimensional world which gave us the flexibility to show both big and small scopes of community and their interconnectedness. We collaborated with Kirkpatrick and the National Link Coalition in writing the script, and former KOSU Director and animal advocate, Kelly Burley, provided the voiceover. It was truly an Oklahoman group effort, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Thank you to the Kirkpatrick Foundation for letting us work on this special project.
